Welcome to our first episode of Puerto Rican Flavors. In this pilot episode, we tried to show you, with enough detail, the process of making "Puerto Rican Rice" (Arroz con Gandules). Arroz con Gandules, or Puerto Rican Rice with Pigeon Peas, is a staple of Puerto Rican traditional cuisine. It is a very common dish that can be eaten as common as having a sandwich or a "meat and potatoes" dinner in the United States. While primary considered a rice side-dish, we will focus on making this first before we show you how to make more main entrees that go with dish.
Ingredients (30 minutes cooking time)
- 1 cup of Short Grain Rice
- 1 1/2 cups of water
- 2-3 tbsp. Sofrito
- 1/2 can of green pigeon peas
- 1/2 envelope of Sazón (optional)
